MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- On Monday Yamhill County Dog Control took into custody a pit bull accused of biting two McMinnville residents on Saturday.
“I’m still hurting a lot,” said victim Jordyn Smith, who claims she was minding her own business when it happened.
Neighbor Dale Cordell, who was also attacked by the same pit bull minutes earlier, suffered puncture wounds on his hand and leg.
“Before I could react, the dog nailed me in the back of the leg here and while he was chewing on my leg I pushed him away with this hand and he grabbed this hand,” added Cordell.
Since any warm blooded animal can carry rabies the dog will be locked away for ten days. “The veterinarian isn’t open on Sundays for me to obtain certificates and I had to find information today,” said dog control officer Jodi Whiting. “I made contact with the veterinarian and found out they don’t have current information on file.”
For victim Dale Cordell the lock up could not have come soon enough. “Three blocks away from the house of the dog is a park and you can’t have dogs like that running around and once a dog gets a taste of blood you know how the story goes,” added Cordell.
Fortunately this story did not have a horrible ending. “I think it shouldn’t be allowed to be at the house with the owner so I’m glad they have it in custody now,” said Smith. The owners of the pit bull will get a dog bite citation.
Jordyn Smith said she was playing with her black Labrador, Sunny when two pit bulls walked up to her and one attacked.
“It just jumped up and bit me in the arm and wouldn't let go and that really scared me so I just yelled for my mom,” Smith told KGW.
Just one block away, Dale Cordell heard Jordyn’s screams. He knew what was probably happening, even though he couldn’t see the girl, because he, too, had just been attacked.
“I could hear the second attack just a few blocks over and that was pretty horrifying,” he said.
