Wandering Salem goats shot and killed
09:53 AM PDT on Friday, July 11, 2008
SALEM, Ore. -- Someone in Marion County got their goat -- three of them, to be exact.
Three stray goats that have been wandering around a subdivision were shot and killed this week.
The sheriff's office thinks the animals were done in by a property owner unhappy to see them making meals of shrubbery.
Animal rights activists are upset, but there is nothing illegal about firing a weapon outside an urban growth boundary, so long as precautions are taken.
Neighbors think the goats once lived on a nearby hobby farm and were left to fend for themselves about 10 months ago, when the occupants moved.
