The 9-month-old Siamese cat will be the 10,000th pet spayed or neutered at the Oregon Humane Society's recently opened Animal Medical Learning Center.
The medical center attached to the Humane Society shelter in northeast Portland has averaged 30 surgeries per day since opening in Sept. 2007.
Mallory was one of 37 pets rescued from an Oregon household. Dr. Kris Otteman, the director of shelter medicine, says it's fitting that the milestone surgery will be performed on a cat who came from a home that contributed so much to pet overpopulation.
