Joe Michaels anchors the weekend weather on KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 @ 5, 6:30, and 11, and brings environmental stories to you during the week.
Michaels began his broadcasting career as a weekend meteorologist at WTXL (ABC) in Tallahassee, Florida. After working there for a year he moved to WFTV (ABC) in Orlando, Florida, where he quickly became the weekday morning meteorologist. Joe is glad that he was there in Central Florida to help protect his viewers throughout the devastating hurricane season of 2004.
Joe graduated from The Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology in 2003, and received his Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in 2006.
While growing up in New Jersey, Joe experienced every kind of weather - blizzards, heat waves, hurricanes and more! His natural fascination and passionate interest in this weather fueled his decision to turn it into a career.
Although far from his family, Michaels is excited to be living here in the Northwest, and enjoys all that the region has to offer. In his spare time he goes skiing, SCUBA diving, hiking, and plans on attempting to golf.
