Adam Bjaranson joined the KGW sports team in December 2004, after a three-year stint at Portland's FOX affiliate. He can be seen anchoring sports on weeknights on NewsChannel 8 at 6:30, 10 and 11. He is also the host of Sports Sunday.
Adam is no stranger to the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in Warrenton -- a small coastal town on the northern Oregon coast. After graduating with a BS from Portland State, Adam headed south to San Francisco State University to continue his education. While in the Bay Area, he landed a position with the Golden State Warriors, assisting with their pre and postgame radio shows.
There have been opportunities in other parts of the country, but Adam has been fortunate to keep his broadcast roots strictly tied to the northwest. His first TV job lasted just 3 months in tiny Coos Bay, Oregon where he served as their Sports Anchor/Reporter. Following that, he landed a job as the Sports Director at KVEW-TV in Kennewick, WA (Tri-Cities), where he remained for 3.5 years. Then came the call to Portland.
"It's a rare opporunity," says Bjaranson. "I have been very blessed to be able to remain close to my family and friends, and still do what I love. Most anchors and reporters don't get this opportunity."
Adam credits his success to his mother and late father for encouraging him along the "sometimes rocky" broadcasting path. When he finds spare time, Adam is a regular on local basketball courts and golf courses. He's also an avid collector of classic sports memorabilia.
Adam was born in Oakland, California and has, what he calls "strong emotional ties" to the A's and Raiders. He now resides in Beaverton and welcomes your story ideas.
